Introductory Speaker
Saturday, 6 February
- At 0700/1500 this morning, Hezbollah began a massive rocket attack into
Israel.
- At 0800/1600 the rocket assault ended. A market was it, inflicting 22
deaths, with 76 more wounded.
- At 0815/1615, IAF began bombing raids into Lebanon. Suspected
Hezbollah positions in the buffer zone are targeted for rocket and bomb
attack. Israeli radar-guided artillery executes counter-battery fire
against the rocket launch positions.
- At 0820/1620, IAF strikes civilian targets in central Lebanon:
- Beirut power station, telephone exchange, water pumping stations
- Tyr power distribution station, docks
- Sidon power stations, sewage plant
- Zahle power station, etc.
- These strikes coincided with a message sent to the government of
Lebanon stating that these strikes would continue so long as the
Lebanese government continues to support the activities of Hezbollah.
- At 1300/2100, UN peacekeepers on patrol from Naqoura to Houle
failed to report in.
- At 1600/0000, an observation helicopter was dispatched to locate
the lost patrol. At 2200/0600, it located vehicles of the patrol just
outside Barish. The vehicles were in the middle of a destroyed refugee
camp. They were themselves destroyed.
Sunday, 7 Feb
- At 0000/0800, UN peacekeepers were ordered to the site.
- At 0200/1000, the Secretariat was informed of the damage to the
refugee camp. The Council was convened to deal with this serious
matter.
