DAMASCUS, SYRIA, 1999 FEB 7 (AP) --  Early this afternoon, the Syrian               
Prime Minister, Lt. Gen. Mustafa Talas, held a press conference to                  
respond to the Israeli allegations that Syria was involved in the recent            
bombing of the Central Railway station in Tel Aviv.  Talas stated that              
the Israeli allegations "are blatant lies and fabrications designed to              
justify Israel's continuing attacks on innocent Syrian civilians residing           
in southern Lebanon."  Talas emphasized that he "deplores the loss of Arab
lives at the hands of the Israelis."
